Cutie Pie

I think it's so perfect that every mom thinks she has the cutest baby that was ever born.  And I know it's true based on the contests that mom's sometimes enter their babies in (most recently the Gerber baby contest that I got SO many "please vote for my baby" messages about).  All babies are cute, but some just aren't meant to win contests.  But what a lucky baby to have his/her mom truly think her baby is the most darling!

I'm no different.  I realize it's possible there is a cuter baby somewhere, maybe.  I'm not going to go entering him into any competitions, but I am so lucky to be Jake's mom!

Conference Weekend

We have been enjoying our conference weekend!

We are Mormons, or members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  Every 6 months our prophet, now President Thomas S. Monson, and  his apostles speak to the members of the church, and to the world.  I love these weekends, with two 2 hour sessions each Saturday and Sunday.  So much good counsel is given.  It's really inspiring and makes me want to be better.

My parents came to watch the first session with us, then we all headed down to Beaver Creek to spend the rest of the weekend at Kim and Darrell's place.  We were pretty tight in the car, but managed to all fit...except Kyle had to sit on someone's lap- most of the time was on mine, but Jake's was his seat of choice.  Those two love each other!

We watched the next session with Kim and Darrell.  Darrell ate an apple, and Jake wanted it- and he wanted it bad!  Lucky for him, Uncle Darrell is a good sharer.  Jake loves apples!

Last night there was a session for the men.  So Andrew, my dad, and Darrell went off and Kim, Jake, my mom and I went to the dollar store.  I'm in a busy bag exchange with some friends from church and I'm making texture cards.  I got all the materials I needed and started on the project.

We met at Graeter's Ice Cream shop after- SO good.

This morning we went to the park- poor Jake, but it was only his 2nd trip to a playground.  He LOVES it!  It was chilly, so we had him in 2 pairs of pajamas and a hoodie.  All 7 of us and Kyle had a good time.

The rest of the day we've been watching more conference, eating good food, and working on halloween wreaths.  What a great weekend!

Sick, But Happy

This week Jake got his 2nd cold.  So sad!  Luckily it only lasted from Tuesday to Thursday, though I still don't think he's feeling back to 100%.  Poor kid!

He really wanted to be held and had a harder time sleeping with a clogged up nose.  I love when he's so cuddly!  Unfortunately it was a rough week for my job, so a lot of the cuddling had to happen while I worked.

He's also had so many baths lately.  He's been messier than usual, especially now that he likes to drink juice. He LOVES his baths.  I usually turn the water on and go get his clean clothes and diaper while the tub fills.  But he has NOT been liking that.  Once the water turns on in his bathroom and he knows a bath is coming, he cries when I take him out of the room.  He's been getting more daring, crawling around the tub and splashing like crazy.

What a face!  Even covered in food remnants, he's just as cute as can be!

Dressed Alike

Since Jake was itty bitty, I have noticed that I often dress us the same.  On days I wear navy blue, he  usually does too.  And when I wear gray, so does he.  When I wear my comfy pants, he's usually in a sweats outfit.

One day this week I dressed him before I got ready for the day, and when I got out of the shower I realized we were essentially wearing the same shirt!  How crazy.

Grandma Package

This week Jake got 2 packages in the mail from Grandma and Grandpa Olsen.  So exciting!

They came Monday, which happened to be the day Andrew was gone ALL DAY.  Seriously- he left at 7:30 and didn't get home until after midnight.  It's not unusual that he left that early, but that's the latest he's come home since being at Ohio State.  He teaches and TA's a class and had to proctor their midterm.  Then, after the exam finished, he and about 10 others were stuck on campus until all the tests were graded.

So rather than wait until Tuesday to get the packages, I decided I could take the dog, Jake, the mail, and  still pick up the 2 packages from his grandparents in the clubhouse- which really isn't that close to our 3rd story apartment.

Let's just say I looked like an idiot carrying everything, and my arms were sore for a few days...

But Jake got some cute stuff!

Jake (and I) LOVE the new clothes, pajamas, shoes, puzzles, treats, books.

THANKS GRANDMA AND GRANDPA!

in = out

I know I'm a little behind, but a week ago, Jake turned 9 months!  I can't believe he's been alive as long as I was pregnant with him.  I felt like I was pregnant FOREVER!

He has learned so much from month 8 to 9!  Definitely the most exciting month yet.

The day after he turned 8 months, Jake figured out how to sit up himself from laying down.  Then in the next 30 days, he figured out crawling, pulling himself up on furniture, and cruising (walking around he furniture while holding on).

He's actually pretty good at pulling himself up on anything now.  Anything his little hands can stick to- like a mirror, or a window, the stove, or washing machine.  Essentially anything but the wall.

(that's his "why are you taking a picture of me now?" face)

He's also been eating more and more new things.  He seems to get a "rush" out of drinking out of our cups, breathing really heavy, wide eyes, and all his limbs flailing.  We get a kick out of it every time.

He's still a great sleeper, and I love seeing his different sleeping positions.

He and Kyle get along great.   I am so grateful Kyle is so patient and good with him- even when he's hit, poked in the face, has his fur pulled, or his tail twisted, he's still as nice as can be.  Kyle hangs out in the same room as Jake all the time and brings him his gross dog toys to play with.  Jake, as always, LOVES the dog.

He also loves bath-time.

And playing with himself in the mirror.

Now that he can crawl, he is EVERYWHERE.  When I was folding laundry the other day, I couldn't get him to stay close.  However, I got a good 10 minutes of him sitting still by putting him in the laundry basket.  That smile melts my heart!

We love Jake so much!  He's so adventurous, cheesy, fearless, sweet, fun, and cute.  The past 9 months have flown by, but we've enjoyed every minute and look forward to many more fun memories with our sweet boy!

Boo!

No babies were scared in the making of this blog post.

(I was trying to get a picture of the dog and baby looking out the window together.  Kyle yawned, and then a few pictures later Jake finally turned around, but had a cheesy, scared look.  Andrew and I got a kick out of it.)

Happy October!
