Quiet, Please
This week we had a letter stuck in our door. I certainly wasn't expecting it to be a complaint filed against us, but it was!
Apparently the people who live below us complained to the management that we are too loud!
If you know us at all, you know that Andrew and I really aren't the loud type. At all. We have a baby, who really is quite good and doesn't cry very often. When the TV is on, Jake's typically asleep a couple rooms over, so obviously it isn't blaring. We don't play music too often, but when we do, it's while I work and Andrew does homework. And yes, we walk around, but we do live here. Sheesh!
I was pretty flustered about the letter. I don't often get complaints filed against me. In fact, I'm pretty sure this is a first.
But what really made me upset is that since we received the notice, we've listened to the people below us fight and slam doors, scream at their kids, vacuum after midnight, their dog bark (which has woken Jake up), and the cigarette smell from them smoking in their apartment has leaked up to our bathroom and laundry room.
I'm probably a jerk for thinking this, but I really want to do exercise videos now. Then they'd actually have something to complain about :)
Another Crazy Week
I feel like our lives have been in survival mode the last few weeks. We are always so crazy busy. My work has been busier, and then both Andrew and Jake had colds. It's hard to have a sick baby and work! The poor little guy needed some more attention than usual. He had his first fever, which got up to 102.2. He was so sad. So were we! Luckily it only lasted a couple of days, and he was back to his chipper self.
His Air Jordan's (shoes) finally fit, and they are too cute! He's had them since negative 3 months, and I couldn't believe how big they were when Andrew's parents sent them. He's grown so fast, and so have our hearts. We love this baby boy!
We love Jake, and Jake loves the bath. He scrambles into the bathroom anytime the door is ajar and crawls like the dickens to the tub. Even when he's grumpy....like every Sunday, a bath seems to cheer him up like nothing else.
Life is cazy and busy and stressful sometimes, but it's great. I am so grateful to have a family to share this wonderful journey with. I love my boys!

Wave Hello!
Jake has been waving for a month or two now, but every time he does, I think it's the funniest, cutest thing. He really gets into it, making a cheesy grin face and waving both his arms around like he's stranded on an island, signaling for help from far away (yes, Andrew and I have been watching Lost lately). He does it almost any time we wave at him now, and it's so funny!

Weekend Fun
We had an excellent weekend!
My mom came to visit Friday around dinner time, so Andrew and I got away on a much needed date. We love Jake and being with him, but it was really nice to go out to dinner just the two of us. Plus we decided Cheesecake Factory isn't really baby friendly. And I'm certain Jake was having the time of his life with Grandma all to himself.
Saturday morning we went to the zoo with my mom. We had a lot of fun seeing all the animals. No matter how many times we go, we always see something new. This time we saw the manatees for the first time. Apparently they eat 300 lbs of lettuce each every single day. And they don't eat it fast, by any means.
Other highlights were the penguins swimming and jumping out of the water. The polar bears were also in the water for the first time that we've seen. They have an underwater viewing area, which was pretty amazing. Jake liked showing his Grandma all the fun animals. And it was the most beautiful day. High 60s and sunny by mid-afternoon.
When we got back from the zoo, Kim and Darrell were here.
Jake loves them, especially Kim. He kisses her like nobody else. Unfortunately, amongst all the kisses, she also had her nose bit this time!
We enjoyed our relaxing afternoon with Kim, Darrell, and my mom. Jake loved all the attention and performing for such a large audience. And we all enjoyed my mom's cooking for dinner!
A final highlight of the night for Jake was laundry basket rides by Kim and Darrell. He had a blast, giggling and smiling every one of the million times they pushed him up and down the hallway.
After a long, draining week, we had a fantastic weekend!

Naps
Jake is such a good sleeper. He sleeps all night, and has since 7 weeks. What a blessing! He also takes 3 naps every day- what a lucky little boy! He sleeps until 7:30 or 8 every morning, and takes naps from about 9am-11am, 12:30pm-3pm, and 5-6pm. Then he's good to party with us all evening, going down for bed at 9:30 or 10pm.
Thursday, after Jake's new haircut Wednesday evening, I wanted to get a picture of his new style. It ended up being good pictures of how he is before and after nap time- and his hair is cute too :)

I feel the same way. I'm much happier after any naps I get too!
We are so grateful for our good little sleeper!

Busy, Busy, Busy
Andrew and I had another busy week. Andrew spent all his time doing research and working on projects for school. I spent a lot of time working. Luckily it only took 34 hours for me to complete my work this week, rather than the 40 hours I've been putting in lately. That gave me 6 more hours of sleep and playing with Jake!
Poor Jake. I feel bad for him playing by himself for so many hours while Andrew and I are stuck doing other things. He is extremely independent for a 10 month old, however. Sometimes when we do have time to devote to playing with Jake, he'd rather play with his toys by himself. Not usually, though. He usually smiles and giggles when we make ridiculous noises and funny faces for him. He also loves family dance parties. His laugh. Ohh goodness. It gets me every time.
Wednesday we had dinner with a family we've become good friends with here in Columbus. He's in the statistics program with Andrew, which is how we met. We're also members of the same church, although we go to different meetings. They just had their 4th baby a couple of weeks ago, and it was so fun to hold such a cute, new little boy! I can't believe how HUGE Jake is compared to a little newborn. It's amazing how fast they grow.
After having dinner with the Zimmerman's Wednesday, Michelle cut Jake's hair. I wish I would have had my camera for the event, but alas, I did not. He cried with the clippers, but once she gave him a sucker (his first- he loved it!), he did pretty well. And he looks so cute and a lot older with his new do. This was his second cut, both by her. I'm so lucky to have a good friend who can do that!

Another highlight of any "bath day" is bath time. He gets so excited as soon as the water turns on. In fact, any time he can get in the bathroom, he hurries to the tub and cries when we pull him away. He knows what he wants, that's for sure!
Nothing else too exciting happened this week, but we had fun with our little munchkin and worked hard- another typical week here in the Olsen home. We love our little family and the time we get to spend together!

Double Digits
Jake turned 10 months this past week! Wow. How did that happen??
I feel like his little (or not so little) personality is
showing through more and more. I
used to think of him as laid back, but I definitely don’t anymore. He is quite strong-willed.
Andrew and I sat down and thought of
the top words that describe our adorable little munchkin. I’m not sure in 10 more months if we’d
use the same words to describe him, but here’s how our little Jake is now:
Curious.
Knows what he wants.
Determined.
Cute.
Funny.
Performer.
Independent.
Happy.
Sweet.
Adventurous.
Messy.
Into everything.
Andrew’s one word to describe him: Determined (we can’t wait until he’s two…)
My one word to describe him: Adventurous
Jake’s favorite things are baths and being thrown into the
air/spun around/hung upside down.
His favorite food changes depending on what Andrew and I are
eating. He seems to like the
Italian genre best, with home-made pizza and spaghetti. He also likes anything apple- little
chunks of a honey crisp with his lunch or flavored applesauce, etc.
I am surprised that he doesn’t like
goldfish crackers, but loves peas (although picking them up and getting them
into his mouth proves challenging). He really likes yogurt and fights anything from a baby food jar.
He enjoys his toothbrush, but not having his teeth brushed. Same with his hair brush.
He’s given up on his bottle and fights hard every time we
try to give him formula. But we
still try 5 times a day. He
doesn’t like juice much, but loves drinking water out of mine and Andrew’s
glasses.
Ohhh how we love this little boy. Everything about him.
We are definitely those parents who think their little angel baby is
perfect. He is :)
Happy 10 months, my sweet little man!
Zoo
We love our zoo passes. Yesterday my sister Kim and her husband Darrell spent the day at the zoo, so we drove over and spent a couple of hours there with them. It was a beautiful day, the animals were active, and Jake enjoyed having his aunt and uncle there with him. We are definitely enjoying having Kim and Darrell just an hour away!
The polar bears were out and active- check out the shot Kim got of our family...and the pooping polar bear :)
My boys looked so cute in their Ohio State hoodies!
Our Saturday was pretty crazy with Andrew working on research, me working, a church meeting, grocery shopping, cleaning, and laundry, but I'm glad we were able to have some fun at the zoo too.
