6 months!

I can't believe it's been a half a year since Jake was born!  Yesterday he turned 6 months, and the time is just flying by.  He has his 6 month doctor's appointment on Tuesday, so I'm not sure what his stats are yet, but my guess is he weighs just over 17 lbs. Most of his 3-6 month clothes are either way too small or are getting pretty tight.

Jake LOVES going outside.  Andrew and I will often take Jake with us when we take the dog out to go potty, and Jake can't get enough of watching Kyle (the dog).  He also loves going to the store.  Instead of keeping him in his car seat and pushing him around in a stroller, we've been carrying him around so he can see more.  His facial expression is always really serious when we are shopping, but it's obvious he's really enjoying himself.

Jake thinks Andrew is the funniest person in the world.  He laughs for Andrew like nobody else.  It's so great to see my husband and baby so happy together.

This past week my mom came and stayed a few days with us.  She spoils us like crazy when she comes, we love it.  She feeds Jake all his bottles, plays with him most of the day, and makes us good dinners.  Jake loves having her there because she walks around the apartment, shows him all the pictures and decorations on the walls, and talks to him so much.  By the time she left yesterday, he was exhausted from all the fun with grandma.

Jake definitely seems to be teething, though nothing has come through yet.  He drools like no baby I've seen before and always wants something to chew on.  The past few days, every time he reaches for an object, his mouth goes open at the same time.

I feel bad for him!  It clearly hurts because he's a little crankier than usual and definitely cries more easily.  Luckily it doesn't usually last long.

Jake seems to have a new favorite food now too- prunes!  He tried those and peaches for the first time this past week.  I thought the peaches would be his favorite, but nope, prunes!

Jake has also been enjoying his baths more and more lately.  We got him a rubber ducky, and that seems to add a lot of excitement to bath time.  He kicks and kicks at it, splashing the water around like crazy.  And when he can get it in his hands, of course it goes to his mouth, like everything else.

I can't believe I've been a mom for 6 months- it's definitely better than I had ever imagined it could be!  I had no idea in the hospital 6 months ago how much joy this little boy would bring to our lives.

It took a little longer to get Jake here than we expected, but he was well worth the wait!

Big Days!

Jake is becoming more and more fun by the day and is showing more and more of his personality, which I love.

He's been spending a lot more time in his ExerSaucer, which he really enjoys because he can stand up.  He also enjoys his new sitting skills playing with his little piano.

Jake plays so hard that he often falls asleep quite suddenly- this time with his foot still in the air...

Jake has also been enjoying mealtime.  We've been feeding him when we eat dinner, and although he seems to be jealous that our food looks and smells better, he seems to like eating at the same time as us.

The other day Andrew was eating a nectorine while holding Jake, and he sure wanted it...bad!  He loved and it and cried when Andrew took it away.  It's so fun seeing him learn and try new things!

Eating often leads to bath time, which he's never minded, but he now actually seems to enjoy.  He's really taken to the kicking thing.  It seems every bath leaves me wetter and wetter.

I sure love this little boy and am so lucky to be his mom!

The rest of our trip to Utah

We had a great time visiting Andrew's family in Utah.  Saturday one of my very best friend's ever came to visit!  Holly was one of my first friends at BYU, although apparently she didn't like me at first :)  When I tell Andrew stories from my college years, Holly always seems to be there.  We had a lot of fun together and were roommates for more than half the time I was in school.  It was great to catch up with her!

When Holly left, we took a family trip to In-and-Out with everyone, which Andrew has been dying to do.  Jake was extremely interested in the food.  When he got a hold of Maddie's shake cup, he didn't want to let go!

Jake also enjoyed spending some time with his Great-Grandma Olsen.  It was also discovered during our Utah trip that Jake loves animated movies, and he watched the better part of Finding Nemo (in a number of sittings throughout the trip).  I'm afraid he's going to love TV, and soon!

Jake also took his first dip in a pool Saturday.  He's not 6 months old yet, so he can't wear sunscreen or go out into the sun.  However, Andrew's mom got him the cutest little blow-up pool, which we had to use!  We waited until the sun was mostly down and gave him his bath outside.  I don't think he knew what to think about it at first, but by the end he was splashing around and clearly enjoying himself.

After a big day, we were all exhausted, especially Jake!

We had a great time with Andrew's family and can't wait to see them again next summer!

Father's Day

This past Sunday was Andrew's first Father's Day as a dad.  I'm sue it wasn't exactly what he would have dreamed of, but it was a fun day to celebrate him being a dad.

We woke up at 4:50am Sunday in Utah.  We finished getting packed, got ready, and were out the door by 6am to head to the Provo airport.  We were happy to have Andrew's parents, brother, and sister come with us to say goodbye.  It was sad to leave them, especially with how fast Jake changes, but luckily we Skype every week so it doesn't seem like it'll be too long before we see them again.

After a sad goodbye, we got on the airplane and were off to Denver.  Jake did SO well.  That was a good Father's Day gift to Andrew!  We had a short layover and then flew from Denver to the Akron/Canton airport close to where my family lives.  Jake was great again, in fact he fell asleep before we took off and slept the first 30 or so minutes of the flight.

After waking up from falling asleep myself, I looked over to see Jake and Andrew taking a nap together.  I'm sure we were quite the site- all 3 of us sleeping.

When we arrived back in Ohio, my parents picked us up and we headed up to my grandparents house for the annual Father's Day picnic.  Unfortunately it rained a ton and we weren't able to ride all my grandpa's motor bikes, but we still had a great time.

This may be the only Father's day both Andrew and I are able to spend time with our dad's and Jake is able to see both of his grandpa's.  We did enjoy that!  Andrew and I are both so lucky to have such great fathers!  We love them both so much.

Jake is also lucky to have a great father!  It's so fun to see Jake's face light up when Andrew comes into the room.  Jake doesn't laugh for anyone like he does his dad, and it is so wonderful to watch them together.  Happy first Father's Day, Andrew!!
