Big Blue Eyes

Jake seems to be a pretty good mix of me and Andrew.  It seems like the bottom half of his face is like mine, while the top half is Andrew- especially his eyebrows.  My favorite feature of Jake's is his bright blue eyes, which seems to be a good mix of the two of us.  They are big like mine, and a beautiful blue like Andrew's.

At almost 5 months now, Jake is getting more and more fun by the day.  He is chatting up a storm and will babble to anyone who will listen- even the dog.  He's figuring out that he likes to be held more and more, and that it's best if mom or dad are standing.  I wish he wouldn't have figured that out, but it sure is fun to have him smile at us.

Jake and the dog continue to get along great.  They are spending more and more time playing.  I was so worried that the dog wouldn't do that well with Jake, but he's done such a good job.  I'm hoping by time Jake is mobile, he and Kyle will entertain each other while I work.  We'll see how that turns out for me...

I feel so blessed to have Jake as my son- he's such a sweet boy and so much fun.  His smile melts my heart and his big blue eyes light up my life.  Andrew and I can't get over how great becoming parents has been.

New Discovery: Feet

About a week ago Jake figured out how to grab his feet, and he's hardly let go since!  He talks to them all the time and is often switching between his right and left big toes, which sometimes are now preferred to a binkie.  I love watching him learn new things!  It truly is wonderful being a mom!

Jake's New Toy

A few weeks ago, we got Jake an ExerSaucer from Baby Einstein.  It bounces up and down with him and has toys that entertain him for a long time all around it with a swiveling seat.  We love it because he does, but it's loud!  Andrew and I find ourselves singing the "Red, Yellow, and Blue" song over and over again.  Aside from some "ohhhh's", that's all the words to it, too...

It's perfect for him while I work- after his feedings, he plays in it for about half an hour and I'm able to get lots done.

We have it set up right next to a huge mirror in our office, so he can look at himself in addition to all the light-up toys he is so interested in.  A great buy for our little guy!

zzzzz

Jake is such a good sleeper! It has made working about 30 hours a week from home while taking care of him so much easier.  He sleeps well in his crib at night, and likes to take naps on his little gym and in his swing during the day.  He has actually slept through the night all but one or two times since 7 weeks.  He takes about 5 naps during the day, ranging from 20 minutes to 2 hours.  What a blessing!

The smile that melts my heart

It is so hard to get Jake to smile for the camera, although he is better than he used to be.  I love looking at him throughout the day and seeing him light up and showing me the cutest little gummy grin.  This boy has stolen my heart.  Between he and Andrew, I feel like the luckiest girl in the world!

MMMM, Carrots!

Jake has now tried rice cereal, applesauce, and carrots.  He has very much enjoyed eating all 3, but the rice cereal didn't agree with his tummy too well.  The carrots are by far the messiest.  The first night we learned our lesson that he needs to be in just a bib and diaper.

By the end of his half container of carrots last night, Jake managed to have it in both hands, all over his face, in his hair, up his nose, in his ears, on his legs and feet, and on both my shirt and pants.  What a talented little guy :)
